TableViewer App is a Matlab^TM App to load tabular data from text files, spreadsheets and data held in a .mat files. This allows the rapid viewing of a range of default plots, interactive plotting and statistics tools and the ability to add bespoke analysis and plotting. The latter has the advantage that the functions and outputs can be more clearly documented than is often the case in a spreadsheet, thereby maintaining the history (especially if the functions are maintained in a version control repository, such as git or svn). If the latter is the intended use, you can clone TableViewer from github at https://github.com/CoastalSEA, if you want to build and maintain your own version of the App. Alternatively, you can create a branch and contribute your additions to the development.

Toolbox and App distribution migrated to GitHub

The CoastalSEA toolboxes (dstoolbox and muitoolbox), together with the Applications that make use of these toolboxes have been migrated to GitHub. The versions at the time of this post, and some legacy versions, remain available from the CoastalSEA website.

Ongoing development of the software will make use of GitHub repositories. This allows users to download the latest release of the code, or a Matlab(TM) installation file. Alternatively, those seeking to contribute can create a fork and clone their own working copy to a local Git repository.

Toolboxes and selected Apps Updated

Some packages have been updated. In most cases the changes are minor and entail additional checks and improved documentation.

Toolboxes

muitoolbox: Several checks added to catch incorrect returns. Added modifyVariableType, selectDataset and selectCaseDatasetvariable to muiCatalogue and functions to readspreadsheet and get_variable (for use in conjunction with selectui). Some minor enhancements to utilities and bug fixes.
dstoolbox: Minor enhancements and bug fixes.

Apps

Asmita: Re-wrote handling of fixity, and the way interventions that are fixed are handled. Modified Interventions tab to display incremental or cumulative change and added Figure button.
CoastalTools: Fixed bug using datetime format in ct_data_cleanup. Removed class ctBlueKenueData and replaced with ctModelData and format function bluekenue_ts_format.m. Added binned_wave_climate function.
CSTmodel: Restructured data format to hold along channel form in separate table. Added the decomposition of imported data to be directly comparable with CSTmodel output. New functions for this are cst_decompose_velocity and cst_phaselag. Help and manual updated, including documentation of the outputs.
ModelSkill: Changed call from getSubDomain to gd_subdomain in GDinterface and getUserTools.

CoastalSEA Apps package refresh

All packages have been updated. In some cases the changes are minor and entail additional checks and improved documentation. The more substantive changes are listed below.

Asmita

Updated function for simple_tide now used.
Utility to update models to latest version of code added.
Tool to plot multiple elements from PlotUI added.
Added matrix condition checks and option to display a summary plot during run time.
Added check that toolboxes are installed. Implemented checks when using Response tab.
Modified saltmarsh bio-enhanced settling and other limits on erosion to a common approach (ws=0). This includes a check that volume cannot be larger than element defining prism (SxH).

CoastalTools

Added function to analyse cycles in tidal range data.
Modified handling of obliques waves near shore in the refraction model.
Corrected bug in nearshore wave model when using the surf zone depth option (NaN), causing function to misread the offshore depth.

dstoolbox

Added check when adding row dimension to force a column vector

muitoolbox

Updated templates in templates folder.
Corrected bug in saveanimation2file.
Added option to add reference line to Rose plots
Added option to edit DSproperties from the App UI.
Derive output options extended to work with multiple output variables.
Improvements to Stats and Edit UIs.
Modified inputUI so that input figure cannot be lost behind other windows when in use.

Asmita saltmarsh options extended

The ASMITA App update includes the following additions and fixes:

Added option to use drift rate as basis of equilibrium for ‘Beachface’, ‘Shoreface’, ‘Spit’, ‘DeltaFlat’ type elements.
Improved handling of loops in drift definition to prevent infinite recursion.
Added option for edge and/or surface of saltmarsh to erode.
Added saltmarsh sensitivity plot to show how equilibrium depth varies as a function of sediment load and the rate of sea level rise, with the model settings in use.
Added option for interventions to be erodible or non-erodible.
Added option to scale the y-axis values when using a pivot plot.

Some minor fixes have also been made to the muitoolbox as follows:

Added ‘Differences’ to plot scaling options.
Added check when adding new variables to a plot that x-axis data are compatible.
Added trap when viewing case settings for multi-object vectors that cannot be displayed in the table.
Added function to access the model property data as a table (as displayed on tabs but returned as a table).
Option to reload a Case changed to copy input properties, so that the new settings are independent of the source Case.
Fixed error plotting animations to correctly plot surfaces and contour plots.

Dynamic exchanges added to ASMITA

The ASMITA App update includes the following additions and fixes:

Added functions and scripts to run Asmita from the command line or in batch mode.
Added Unit testing for set of models that test the range of functionality available.
Added option to Time plots to use a pivot year to define the start point (y-value and time) for all lines included on plot.
Modified handling of saltmarsh equilibrium when water depth is zero and removed scaling to initial values for saltmarsh and storage elements.
Added option to use time-varying horizontal and vertical exchanges.
Added moving surface area to output variables (to view interventions).
Changed reporting of depths when volume or surface area are zero.
Updated unit tests and manual.

Some minor fixes have also been made to the muitoolbox as follows:

Error in check for model version number corrected in muiModelUI.
Correct bug in muiCatalogue.m when displaying case properties to catch tables and timeseries.
Option to suppress prompt added so that model runs in silent mode (e.g. in unit testing).
Fix call to Save and Save As when opening a new file.

WaveRayModel now uses meshes

The WaveRayModel App has been extended to use grids or meshes.

ASMITA – documentation of the model derivation has been added

CoastalTools: Now includes :

option to use wave refraction transfer tables, as produced by the
WaveRayModel App, to generate inshore wave climates.
explanation of the CCO topographic survey feature codes to the
manual.
Crenulate Bay tool can now use imported image (e.g., aerial)
or a profile extracted shoreline as the background for bay plots.

Minor bug fixes to dstoolbox and muitoolbox.

WaveRayModel released

A new App has been added to the CoastalSEA suite of tools to perform wave ray tracing in forward and backward mode. This allows refraction of wave spectra from offshore to inshore locations. The ability to use the spectral transfer table from the WaveRayModel to carry out wave refraction has also been added to CoastalTools.

A number of bug fixes have been implemented in dstoolbox and muitoolbox as follows:

dstoolbox	Added function to remove rows and columns that are all zeros from 2/3D array Corrected bug in ‘removerows‘ prevent method overwriting the source ‘dstable‘.
muitoolbox	Added code flag needed to allow large data sets to be saved. Function library list updated for WaveRayModel App and added wave_scatter and wave_steepness functions. Added option to concatenate multiple dstables when importing data sets. Changed export prompt and option to only allow the selection of a single case. Added function needed for some 3D surface plots.

Updated training packs, Apps and Toolboxes

New Training packs have been added for CoastalTools and Asmita. These now use Matlab LiveScripts as well as the Apps.

The following fixes have also been made for this release:

dstoolbox	dstable modified to load multi-dimensional cells.
muitoolbox	View Case Settings modified to handle additional data types. Added checks for rounding errors, which caused incorrect data selection when the data were almost constant.
Asmita	Corrected bug when selecting interventions Adding and deleting of advections in and out of elements corrected and reassignment of flow paths improved.
CoastalTools	Minor bug fixes

Update of toolboxes and Apps

Based on feedback for the first release of the toolboxes and Apps (March 2022), extensive updates and testing have been undertaken. Projects built with the previous version should work with the updated Apps, with he exception of ChannelForm and ModelSkill. These have been adapted to use generic grid handling tools and consequently are not backwards compatible. The tablr below summarises the main changes and further details can be found in the App specific manuals.

As ever, if you find issues with the new versions, do let us know and we will do our best to provide fixes or work-arounds.

dstoolbox	Minor bug fixes
muitoolbox	General tidying up to add additional error traps and extend functionality of UI tools. Corrected error in peakovertheshold function. Added option to compute the Hurst exponent.
Asmita	Added option to simulate Holocene sea level change and error traps for data input when exchanges have not been defined
CoastalTools	Add maxima with defined separation interval to statistics peak selection method. References to Wave Energy changed to Wave Power.
ChannelForm	Modified to use a generic abstract class for handling grids and method for computing channel properties amended and range of properties that output extended. Handle of grid loading improved to allow user to adjust orientation of grid and/or axes. Added functions to manipulate and interrogate grids.
MRBreach	Extended output to include elevations and velocities through the breach
ModelSkill	Modified to use a generic abstract class for handling grids
